According to media reports, since the end of September, the battery supply shortage has affected the business of some energy storage companies, the fourth quarter energy storage project schedule will also be slowed down.
Since the beginning of this year, the market demand for power batteries and energy storage has grown rapidly, resulting in a shortage of battery capacity. Statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology show that the national output of energy storage batteries exceeded 32GWh in the first half of the year. Compared to last year, the total installed energy storage capacity was 2.4GW/4.9GWh, more than six times. Judging from the bidding situation of energy storage market this year, the centralized procurement scale of several central enterprises has already exceeded 10GWh.
In response to the expanding market for energy storage and power batteries, China is in a wave of battery expansion. According to incomplete statistics based on public information, the global capacity planning of 59 Chinese battery enterprises has so far exceeded 5171.4GWh, including 4,630.4GWh for power batteries and 2,300GWh for energy storage batteries (part of the capacity is shared by energy storage batteries and power batteries). In addition, overseas battery production capacity of Chinese enterprises has exceeded 218GWh.
In the past two years, first-tier and second-tier battery companies such as Ningde Times, BYD, Zhongchuang Singapore Airlines, Yiwei Lithium Energy, Guoxen High-tech, Hive Energy, Haichen Energy Storage have announced new production expansion plans. More than 1,000 GWH of new capacity is planned for this year alone.
By province, Jiangsu, Hubei and Sichuan are the first tier of battery production capacity, all of which exceed 700GWh, while Zhejiang, Anhui, Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangxi and other provinces have more than 200GWh battery production capacity.
At present, there are 15 enterprises with a capacity of more than 100GWh, with a total capacity of 3,909GWh, accounting for nearly 80% of the market share. Including: Ningde Times, BYD, ZhongChuang Singapore Airlines, Yi Wei Lithium Energy, Chuneng New energy, Honeycomb Energy, Xinwang Da, Rip new energy, Tianjin Lishen, Yao Ning Technology, Guoxun High-tech, Haichen Energy storage, Foneng Technology, Vision Power, aerospace lithium batteries.
It will take two to three years for the battery production line to be fully released. Most of the current leading enterprises' capacity will start construction between 2021 and the first half of 2022. By this measure, the shortage of battery capacity is expected to ease next year.
Ouyang Ming Zeng Gao, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said at the China Electric Vehicle 100 Forum in 2022 that China's battery production capacity may reach 1,500 GWH in 2023, 3,000 GWH in 2025, and battery shipments are expected to reach 1,200 GWH in 2025. Excess battery capacity is expected by 2025.
STDC said that for the research, development and application of lithium battery energy storage, it provides a leading comprehensive solution of lithium battery energy storage system. The company vertically integrates the three core links of energy storage lithium battery research and development, BMS research and development, and system integration. With high-performance energy storage lithium battery and advanced BMS technology as the core, the company takes market demand as the guidance to provide users with advanced energy storage products.
